What Plaintiffs’ Employment Lawyers Need to Know About Bankruptcy: A View from the Bench

The Honorable S. Martin Teel, Jr., who served as the sole U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Columbia from 1988 until September 2020 and continues to serve on recall, currently handling mediations of civil actions in the Federal District Court, will speak about what should attorneys representing employees should do preserve your clients’ rights when a Defendant declares bankruptcy and/or threatens to declare bankruptcy.

This seminar will cover a brief overview of bankruptcy laws; what they mean for different types of employment claims and defendants; how to file bankruptcy claims; how to represent your client after a defendant files for bankruptcy; and how can you best frame your pleadings to shield them from discharge in bankruptcy. This panel will be moderated by Suvita Melehy of Melehy and Associates, who practices both bankruptcy law and plaintiff side employment law.

This seminar is open to all, including attorneys representing plaintiffs in employment law cases and attorneys representing defendants in employment law cases, as well as bankruptcy lawyers and other members of the bar. Advanced registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
